Haffenreffer & Associates, Inc.

Since 1984, Portland, Oregon, based Nursing Consultation provider Haffenreffer & Associates, Inc. has assisted hundreds of skilled and community based care facilities to assess and improve their systems, educate and motivate their staffs and respond to survey and compliance issues. Excellence is our standard. Haffenreffer consultants possess exceptional expertise and skills in both nursing practice and in the field of long term care. Our combined experience adds up to over 100 years. Three of our consultants have served as surveyors, including one who was a program supervisor.

Demi Haffenreffer
Demetria (Demi) P. Haffenreffer, RN, MBA,
founder and CEO of Haffenreffer & Associates, Inc.

Demetria (Demi) Haffenreffer, RN, MBA, has made Long-Term Care her profession since 1973, first as a Director of Nursing and for the last twenty-five years as a consultant. She is a past Director and Vice-President of the Oregon Health Care Association and has served as President of the Oregon Long-Term Nurses Association.  She has been serving as a member of the American Healthcare Association (AHCA) Quality Improvement Committee since 2003.  In 2006 she was appointed as a member of the Board of Senior Examiners for the AHCA’s Quality Improvement Award, an award granted to the top performing facilities in the Nation. She became a Master Examiner in 2009.

Demi is known as a dynamic and interesting presenter. Her thorough knowledge of the regulations combined with her extensive hands-on experience provide for practical, everyday solutions to the challenges facing the care giver and facility. She has taught workshops nationally and internationally on a variety of subjects pertinent to Long-Term and Community Based Care, has authored numerous policy and procedure manuals, and has published articles in Provider Magazine.  She has been a guest speaker for State and National healthcare organizations, and is a Trainer with the AHCA Leadership Excellence Program as well as one of the designers of that program; and the AHCA Train the Trainer program.

Her depth of knowledge, breadth of experience and her communication skills have made her a sought after  resource and advocate for facilities facing regulatory disputes, as well as for expert review and testimony for attorneys facing litigation in the Pacific Northwest and nationwide.

Principal Consultants

Annie Andruszko, RN, has made long term care her profession since 1971, working her way up from CNA, to RN Care Manager and then to Director of Nursing for over ten years. She has been with Haffenreffer & Associates, Inc., since 1998.  Her special interest is skin care - prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers.


Roxie Dyer, RN,
has worked in long term care since 1976. Prior to coming to Haffenreffer and Associates, Roxie worked as Director of Staff Development in a Portland Nursing Facility. One of Roxie’s special projects is to assist with the MDS Training that Haffenreffer and Associates, Inc. has developed for and provides to the State of Oregon.

 
Laurie George, RN,
came to Haffenreffer and Associates, Inc. in 1998 after serving as a Director of Nursing in a Long Term Care Facility in Oregon.  Prior to her long term care experience Laurie worked as a Director of a Home Health Agency in Southern California helping to earn a JCAHO score of 100%.  Laurie often focuses on our Community Based Care consultation.  She has been an energetic trainer in our MDS, DNS and IV therapy classes as well as clear communicator in a wide variety of one on one and group inservicing and implementation settings.

 
Muriel Miner, RN, BS, began her career in Long Term Care by surveying LTC facilities to ensure compliance with established federal and state regulations. She later became the Manager of one of the State of Oregon's offices responsible for the certification and licensure of SNF's and for the licensure of assisted living and residential care facilities.  Upon her “retirement” in 2005, Muriel joined Haffenreffer & Associates, Inc. Her specialty is Quality of Life including Activity Programming.
